RST H145 FFS receives Level D certification in Germany

An H145 full flight simulator (FFS) manufactured by Reiser Simulation and Training GmbH (RST) and installed at the ADAC HEMS Academy facility in Germany has received Level D certification from the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt) and is now ready for training.

The FFS joins a portfolio of existing EC135 and EC145 full flight simulators at the ADAC HEMS Academy and will be used by operators from 29 countries worldwide with various mission profiles like HEMS, law enforcement, VIP services or offshore operators. It will also be used by ADAC HEMS Academy’s sister organisation, ADAC Air Rescue, which operates 14 H145 helicopters.

It has been configured with a 6 DOF-electric motion and vibration system and directly projects moving imagery using 15 two-channel HD LED video projectors on a 240 by 80 degrees screen. These features, alongside an on-board instructor operating station (IOS), guarantee a realistic flight experience.

“Besides Level D standards, the H145 FFS offers pilots the opportunity to gain experience in night vision goggles (NVG) flight, making use of the NVGs the operators use during their missions,” claims Thomas Hütsch, CEO of the ADAC HEMS Academy.

RST designed the H145 FFS with a full NVIS-compatible H145 helicopter cockpit and simulated Helionix avionics suite. The flight model was based on dedicated flight test data collected by RST’s flight data acquisition business unit, Reiser Flight Systems.

Frank Thieser, Chief Sales and Strategy Officer at Reiser Training Services GmbH, says the FFS’ interchangeable cockpit allows training centres to scale their business by adding one or more aircraft cockpits to their offering without investing directly in another simulator bay.

Currently, the Airbus models H125, H135 and H145 and several other aircraft types are available as FFSs and Flight Training Devices (FTDs), all with the roll-on, roll-off capability as a standard.
