Reiser H145 FFS achieves Level D certification with help from project: syntropy and Barco
Reiser Simulation and Training’s H145 full-flight simulator (FFS), which features a visual display system designed by project: syntropy, has been certified as a Level D training device by EASA. It achieved Level D certification in Germany during January 2018 and is in service with the ADAC HEMS Academy.
project: syntropy teamed up with domeprojection.com GmbH to use its camera-based auto-calibration, which delivers accuracy in terms of geometry, blending and linearity that meets the demanding Level-D criteria for a visual system.
The visual system used by Reiser’s H145 FFS provides a fully immersive virtual training environment based on a 240 x 80 degree field-of-view display using Barco’s dual-channel high-resolution FS35 IR projectors. As with real operations, the crew also have the option to train realistically with night vision goggles (NVG). It was necessary to design a dome to fit with the existing ADAC infrastructure.
In close collaboration with Reiser’s visual team, Quantum3D and domeprojection.com, project: syntropy delivered a system for NVG and night scene training without optical blend masks. This allows training scenarios where the pilot is flying into the night without any need for a manual change to a night scenario. Realtime control of the projectors’ LED profiles was one of the requirements to achieve this feature.
The combination of size, performance and exceptional realistic reproduction of imagery whilst using NVG were key contributing factors to selecting Barco’s FS35 IR LED projectors for this task. “Our mission focuses on strong support of our partners, and we will continue to work hard alongside Reiser and project: syntropy to ensure we always deliver on tomorrow’s training tasks,” commented Dave Fluegeman, VP Simulation at Barco.
The ADAC HEMS Academy in Bonn, Germany, is using Reiser’s H145 FFS to train emergency medical air rescue pilots and crews in civil urban traffic environments and in offshore scenarios.
